Mysore for beginners

What is Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga?...How does a Mysore class work?
These classes are a unique yoga class setting in which students learn and practice at their own pace and level. Mysore class is self-practice with students of mixed abilities practicing side by side under the guidance of the teacher. Students will receive one to one instruction, learning the sequence of poses and will be safely adjusted if needed.
Is Mysore yoga suitable for beginners?
Definitely ! The best way to learn ashtanga yoga is in the mysore class. You don't have to have any previous experience or be flexible or fit. With a willingness to learn, and some patience, I will introduce you to the basics of this practice. I work with each individual and safely show you the poses and how to adapt and modify if needs be.
You do not need to know the sequence before you start, as I will teach it to you pose by pose.
What happens at my first Mysore class?
Mysore self-practice will have students of mixed abilities practicing side by side.
At your first class, you will be taught how to breathe correctly, bandhas and some sun salutations. Normally the first class is 40 minutes long. It might not sound like a lot, but there is a lot of repetition and movement and this is generally enough for the first class.
What should I bring?
Bring a mat if you have one, and a small towel. You can borrow a studio mat for a few weeks if you don’t have one, but it is recommended to buy one eventually.
